Notorious Kidlington Dump Fully Cleared After Major Crackdown

Residents in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, can now breathe easier as a major clean-up operation has successfully cleared a notorious illegal waste site. The site, which was larger than a football pitch, was shut down by authorities in October 2025 after it was discovered that criminals had been dumping waste there.

The Environment Agency announced today that the clean-up operation has removed an estimated 22,105 tonnes of commercial and household waste, including tyres and shredded plastic. To prevent future access, concrete blocks have been placed at the entrance, and the main gate is now securely padlocked.

This operation is part of a broader initiative by the UK government to combat waste crime, which includes a commitment to clean up other significant illegal waste sites across the country. The government is utilizing drones, increasing the number of Environment Agency officers, and raising fines for illegal dumping to deter offenders.

Environment Secretary Angela Eagle emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating that communities deserve to be free from the blight of illegal waste dumping. The Environment Agency has also made several arrests as part of its ongoing investigation into the illegal dumping at Kidlington.

The government has increased the maximum fines for illegal dumping from £300 to £5,000, with harsher penalties for serious offences. This crackdown aims to ensure that those responsible for waste crime are held accountable and that the integrity of the waste management system is restored.
