Aid reaches hundreds of thousands in Gaza amid severe food insecurity

In Gaza, approximately one in five families reports consuming only one meal per day, with 50% stating they completely ran out of food at least once in the past month, according to the latest figures from the United Nations. The situation has worsened due to cash shortages and the rising cost of food items following the escalation of hostilities in October 2023.

The UN's World Food Programme (WFP) indicates that three-quarters of households in Gaza have encountered difficulties accessing markets this month. To address the crisis, the UN and its partners have recently collected hundreds of pallets of supplies from the Kerem Shalom crossing, a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid. These supplies include fruits, vegetables, food items, adult diapers, school supplies, and fuel.

So far, humanitarian partners have provided food parcels and wheat flour to over 600,000 individuals as part of the August distribution cycle. Despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in October 2025, ongoing hostilities and security restrictions continue to impede recovery efforts and local movement. Frequent military strikes have resulted in casualties and displacement, with more than two million people—nearly the entire population of Gaza—having been forced from their homes. Approximately 90% of civilian infrastructure, including homes, hospitals, and schools, has been heavily damaged or destroyed.
